As I mentioned in a previous post, I was a little weary when I first tried/heard of the green smoothie/green monster movement. But as I mentioned in the post, despite the colour, these smoothies are ACTUALLY tasty!
Now I have become addicted and have been experimenting with more obscure flavours and mix ins – these smoothies really are a nutritional powerhouse!!
This particular recipe is LOADED with greens of all kinds – from the typical spinach, to celery, all the way to spirulina! I’ve talked about the benefits of spirulina, in a previous post if you are interested
This recipe is a first for adding avocado in a green smoothie for me (successfully). I had tried previously but the results left much to be desired! This recipe I think tastes nice and I felt healthy just drinking it
Avocados are a rich source of Vitamin E which is essential for glowing skin, prolonging of the ageing of the skin and shining hair.
This smoothie also contains CHIA SEEDS, these little black seeds are the highest natural source of omega-3s, and when your cells are nourished, your skin glows. Omega-3 fatty acids benefit your skin because they help strengthen cell membranes’ barriers to allow water and nutrients in and keep toxins out!
All these ingredients added together can add great fiber and antioxidants to your diet – in one great hit! Blending greens breaks them down and allows your body to soak up all the nutrients they contain faster and more easily than chewing. It has even been said that the one of the best basic things you can do for your diet is to add a green smoothie, even if the rest of your diet is not so great! I really urge you to try a green smoothie today
I like to freeze my avocado once chopped, if you haven’t frozen it – add ice to your liking below. Also, the night before hand if I know I am making this, I usually place 1 tablespoon of the chia seeds with 4 tablespoons of water, to allow the chia seeds to expand! If you decide to make this in the morning, allow the chia seeds to soak a little bit while you prep/cut the other ingredients!
